Best Martial Arts Instructors!

Sensei James and Master Matt are the best instructors and role models for children of every age from preschoolers to teenagers. They lead by example with great enthusiasm, knowledge, energy, patience, compassion, discipline, passion, and fun. They engage their students not only in detailed martial arts techniques but also very important lessons and skills they will carry with them throughout their lives. They truly care about each child’s progress, growth, and well-being as a whole person. My daughter Laura has been learning and growing into a mature, well-balanced martial arts student under their guidance and direction. I trust them wholeheartedly with her education and development. They inspire her to be a leader for younger ranks and fellow students. It is truly a blessing to have Sensei James and Master Matt making martial arts so enjoyable and fulfilling for all the children they inspire. These Classes are Excellent

During this pandemic it has been emotionally overwhelming for my daughter. This is her 2nd year in karate and got use to going to the actual class. She started the zoom classes and had a moment where she wasn’t sure she wanted to continue. She was stressed. I decided to give her a week to rejuvenate herself and I reached out to Master Matt and explained. He was so supportive and assured me that when she returned they would be right there. They were! When she returned she was better than she was, confident and motivated to finish. Sensei James is an incredible instructor who strives on making the children feel included and assured. He makes sure they understand what they are learning and he will not rush them to get things right away. I am most grateful to the both of them. They have allowed my daughter to grow in confidence and that’s something money can not buy.

Demanding, yet caring!

Sensei James has been my daughter’s instructor for the past 6 years and in that time she has learned so much from him about perseverance and focus. He expects the kids to really be engaged in class, try their hardest, and practice as they should. While he makes it very clear when he feels that the expectations are not being met, you can also see that he cares about the kids and wants them to have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, not just in Tang Soo Do, but in life! We have worked with Master Matt as well more recently, and the two of them make a really great team motivating and encouraging the kids. Thank you Sensei James and Master Matt!!

Amazing program!!!!

I absolutely love this program! My four kids have participated in this program with Sensei James for the past 15 years. We now have 3 black belts and 1 red belt who can’t wait to earn his black belt. My kids have received so much more than just knowledge of karate. My kids have been lucky enough to learn many life lessons through this program such as, how to be more confident, realizing that they have a voice and how to use it, they’ve learned what hard work is, they have learned what it means to accomplish something by yourself, they’ve learned to be accountable, the importance of listening and just be still and in the moment, they have learned to be more aware, they learned to protect themselves, but most of all they have learned gratefulness and to appreciate the people in their lives. My kids have definitely received much more than I could have ever believed they would or could have hoped for and for that I’m truly humbled.
Sensei James is not only an exceptional karate Instructor but truly cares about each and every child as his own. His passion for the art of karate as well as joy of teaching really is the reason why this program stands out as one of the best.

My son has been training with Sensei James for 6 years. We originally signed him up to help his focus (like most 5 year olds… that wasn’t his strong suit). Now, at almost 12 years old, he stays enrolled because he wants to continue to learn, he wants to continue to be challenged, and he wants to be better…that’s about all I could ask for out of a program. Sensei James and Sensei Matt care about their craft, but balance that with caring about their students. I’m happy to support KJMA so that my son and others can continue to grow and develop into the adults we want them to be.

Both my children have been

Both my children have been with Sensei James for 3 years now. I am extremely happy with his teaching methods. He is no nonsense and expects nothing but hard work and the best you can give in a fun environment. At times the work can be challenging as they are expected to follow sequences that are complex to understand without live instruction. But Sensei always tries his best to explain until a concept is grasped which can take several minutes. I really like how he challenges the kids to use their minds and body during each session. Private sessions are wonderful as he is able to critique your child’s moves individually and provide feedback. This martial arts school is not just about showing up and getting a participation trophy/belt you have to earn it. Its preparing young minds to always work hard, take pride in what you do, and to not settle for mediocrity when there is greatness to be achieved.

Challenging and fun!

NJKMA is a great program for kids of all ages. It teaches not only the art of Tang Soo Do but encourages teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence. Through my 9 year journey as a student, I’ve gone from a young white belt to an assistant instructor ready to test for my second-degree black belt. The discipline and work ethic that karate has taught me carries over into other aspects of my life. Sensei James and Master Matt have been the guiding force through my journey; being able to make karate both challenging and fun for everyone.
